Shain began his 23-year Newsweek career as circulation director, followed by several business-related positions until becoming the magazine's general manager and U.S. publisher and eventually its president and COO. Before joining Newsweek, Shain held various business-related positions at Fairchild Publications, Outdoor Life, Popular Science, Golf, Ski, New York, Scholastic Inc., and Boardroom Reports. He has been named by Target Marketing as one of the most influential individuals in the direct marketing industry and has served on the Audit Bureau of Circulations and Ad Council boards of directors.
